Without the crowds, capture the museum’s equipment in the tranquil lighting of the morning magic hour. Includes early access to the museum, a photography release, admission to the museum for the entire day, and one train ride behind #85 ‘Mack’. Tickets must be purchased in advance.

Can’t get enough steam? Both packages, spanning 2 Saturdays, are available together in a discounted combo ticket. On September 29, photographers and the general public are invited to witness the steam-up process if Jeddo Coal Company #85 ‘Mack’ and the museum at sunrise. Without the crowds, capture the museum’s equipment in the tranquil lighting of the morning magic hour. Includes early access to the museum, a photography release, admission to the museum for the entire day, and one train ride behind #85 ‘Mack’ on 9/29. On October 6, official Norfolk Southern photographer Casey Thomason will coordinate a night photo shoot with vintage SRM equipment including GARR #1026, newly arrived CSXT #8954, and the visiting steam locomotive Jeddo Coal Company #85 ‘Mack’ on the tracks at the museum. Includes admission to the museum during the day, one train ride behind #85 ‘Mack’, the night photography session, a photography release, and admission to the museum’s 20th anniversary dinner & reunion. Tickets must be purchased in advance.

The Southeastern Railway Museum will host steam-powered rides at the museum on a pair of weekends this fall, marking the first time in roughly 15 years that a steam train has operated at the museum. On Sept. 29-30 and Oct. 6-7, the museum will host Jeddo Coal No. 85, named “Mack.” John and Barney Gramling of Ashley, Indiana, own the steamer and take it to museums and events nationwide.

Train rides are $5. Premium (closer platform) “SmokeEater” caboose train rides are $8. Caboose train rides are time specific reservations. Please arrive on the loading platform at least 5 minutes ahead of ticketed time.

Rides on the museum’s antique handcar will be $2. Grandscale / Park Train rides are $3. Both the handcar and parktrain rides will be on a line up (first come, first ride) basis.

Please NOTE: You must purchase museum admission to ride the train(s), or the handcar. Ride prices are in addition to museum admission.

 

Annual Homeschool Event

Join us for the annual homeschool event at the Southeastern Railway Museum – this year’s theme is ‘Riding the Rails’! Homeschool families, led by SRM’s Education Conductors in groups of 20, will explore trains, subways, streetcars, and more through hands-on experiences, activities, crafts, and stories. Each family member needs a ticket to participate in this event (adults and children). Tickets are not transferable between time slots; once purchased, tickets cannot be exchanged for another time slot. Ideal for ages 4-12.

Tickets MUST be purchased in advance. No tickets for the event will be sold the day of the program. Train ride tickets are not included in the $7 and may be purchased separately online or on the day of the event at the admissions gatehouse.

Train-or-Treat 2018

Come celebrate Halloween at the Southeastern Railway Museum!

Doors open at 10:00 am, activities from 10:30 am – 4:00 pm

The following activities are included in museum admission: -Costume Contest for ages up to 12 (Times TBA) -Trick or Treating at decorated stations around the museum -Wagon rides (donations appreciated) -Fall themed refreshments -Visiting vendors and local businesses TBA -Live music TBA

The following will be available for a small additional charge: -Hand car rides ($2) -Historic standard-gauge train ($3, $5 combo with miniature train, train robberies TBA) -Miniature train ($3, $5 combo with historic train) -Cab rides – ride up in the locomotive with the engineer! ($5/person, 3 for $12 – limited availability)
